The Knack . . . and How to Get It
In England, the times are a changing: it's mods and rockers. Colin begs his smooth (and misogynistic) pal Tolen to teach him 'the knack' - how to score with women.

It's all about the diet. Eggs, milk and meat . . . skirt.
ReplyDeleteI dig the movie as a social document, it's fun to look at and often has inspired bits of dialogue and stand-out scenes. The lion taming scene is rad, it goes from obnoxious to funny to scary to funny to ridiculous.
A lot of aspects haven't aged well. The slapstick, the snooty English gentry voice-overs . . . but a lot of it hits the mark as well as ever. Douche bags in wayfarers and skinny trousers are still just that.
Even that which hasn't aged well still acts as an interesting bit of archival arcana as far as the swingin' sixties are concerned.
jenn and i watched it last night at home after work.
ReplyDeletei liked it! good head smash through a wall.

Cool, I'm glad you two sought it out. Did Witte learn all about your secret manly techniques from it?
ReplyDeleteNext week is pretty angst-y, I'm excited to see what people think. It is pretty vague and Julie Christie is almost one of the Wild Child girls (Something Wild, etc) but she is sort of crazy and way fucked up . . . so its a bit of a twist on that.
Did anyone else think that the leading lady looks like Alika Cooper?
ReplyDeleteI don't know, I definitely think Zooey Deschanel is copping her style a bit.
